Dragon Project 01 - Project Summary
This is the first Blender project I worked on after learning the basics of the software. I didn’t know about Blender’s sculptor or texture painter while working on this project, so I modeled the dragon by moving vertexes around by hand and I textured it by UV unwrapping it and trying to paint in the bounds of the unwrap. I had previously learned 3D modeling using Google Sketch Up, so I thought the only way to model was drawing vertexes, edges, and faces. This probably slowed down my development in the short term, but I have found my familiarity with this method is very helpful for retopology.
This was the only project I had at the time, so I would keep adding everything I learned into it. This is why it has so many different features, without much thought into if they improved the result. I learned about particle systems, so I added grass. I learned about volumes, so I added clouds. I learned about smoke simulations, so I added fire-breath.
Also, the edge flow was so bad because of the modeling style I used. I was not able to pose the dragon in any position that differed too much from the standing position I modeled it in.
